STRUCK BY: Gen Z Isn’t Any Worse Than Millennials


A survey cited in Fortune declared Gen Z the “most challenging generation to work with”. What’s more, 50% of Gen Zers said their own generation is the most difficult to manage. Ouch.

Gen Z's entry into the workforce has been rough. Many of them didn’t get valuable internship experience due to COVID, or even have the same in-person college experiences that previous generations did. They might be more used to working independently but less comfortable working on teams or giving presentations. And so the narrative becomes, “oh Gen Zers are entitled, they have bad office manners”.

Okay, sure. Just like the millennials before them. And we know those Baby Boomers are “too stuck in their ways” - it’s no wonder the two generations are metaphorically at each other’s throats. And then you’ve got Gen X, the forever latchkey kid. No one’s fighting over Gen X. My point? Each generation is essentially loathed by the one before. It’s rough out there; maybe we can find some empathy for Gen Z.
