STRUCK BY: The Great Exhaustion


Do you know one person who isn’t running on overload capacity? If 2021 was the Great Resignation, 2024 is shaping up to be the Great Exhaustion.

Employees in nearly every industry are experiencing burnout, exhaustion, stagnation - even sadness - at extraordinarily high numbers. Folks are tired of constant change and uncertainty, whether it comes from looping layoff cycles or whiplash-inducing shifts in corporate strategy. During the pandemic, nearly everyone was asked to do more, and in the “return to normal” nothing has really come off those proverbial plates.

Can we shift the tide in 2024? Maybe. Much of it comes down to leadership. We need leaders who don’t pay lip service to burnout, and instead understand and address the structural issues that cause it. Look for those leaders - work for them, emulate them, and become them.
